Year 5 Stargazing, Thursday 13th February
Year 5 had an incredible evening exploring the wonders of space! Children and parents alike enjoyed the immersive Space Dome experience, sparking curiosity and excitement about the universe. Inside the School Hall, everyone had a chance to look through our Science Floor Book, reflecting on the fantastic learning that has taken place so far this year.
Hands-on activities were a highlight of the evening, with children creating marshmallow and spaghetti constellations, getting creative with space-themed crafts, and, of course, warming up with delicious hot chocolate—expertly made by Mrs. Cawley!
Despite some cloudy skies preventing us from seeing all the constellations in the sky using the outdoor telescope, the event was made truly special thanks to the Crewkerne Astronomy Group. Their expertise and engaging presentation, featuring stunning recent images of planets, including Venus, left everyone in awe. We were also treated to a fascinating talk about a large telescope and how it helps us explore the night sky.
A huge thank you to Mrs. Divall (our Science Lead) for organising the Space Dome and inviting the astronomy group, and to Mrs. Cawley, Mrs. Gordon, and Mrs. Chapple for their help in making the evening so enjoyable. Finally, thank you to all the parents who joined us in celebrating the children's learning—it was fantastic to share this experience with you!
